Dr. Wierenga received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Agricultural University Wageningen, The Netherlands, and his doctorate in Water Relations from the University of California at Davis. He has been involved in research and teaching at New Mexico State University and the University of Arizona. His research interests are in Soil Physics, Vadose Zone Hydrology, Contaminant Transport, and Soil Plant Water Relationships.
Soil Measurement Systems continues to be a family business, in 2004, Marc Wierenga and his wife Amber started attending ASA-CSSA-SSSA International meetings with Peter and Annemarie.
In 2013 SMS permanently moved to Huntington Beach California, and is operated by Amber Wierenga. Annemarie passed away from Alzheimer’s in July 14, 2020. Dr Wierenga continues to research and consult on new projects.
