Tempe Cell
Tempe cell is the name given to a short soil column used for determining soil water retention curves. Tempe cells are similar to SMS flow cells, but flow cells are more flexible in their use. Flow cells can be used for determining soil water retention curves, but they can also be used for determining the saturated and unsaturated hydraulic conductivities of soils, and they can be used for solute transport experiments. Flow cells come in a variety of lengths and diameters. They come with highly permeable nylon membranes (no ceramic plates), which are readily replaceable. These membranes also require less time for soil to come to equilibrium during water retention experiments.
